Hippotragus equinus - Лошадиная антилопа
One more purchase for my WWF collection is the set of 4 stamps from Mocambique
On all four stamps there are different pictures of Hippotragus equinus
It's the second largest antelope, rahter strong. It doesn't have serious enemies except lions and humans.

Ink and wash painting (Китай)- Гохуа (Китай)
A card with traditional Chinese ink and wash painting. This kind of painting is considered close to calligraphy. Silk or special paper is used as a background. My friend told me that she had practised in this painting. It's not an easy thing - you mustn't make the same line on the paper with a brush twice or the drawing can be ruined as the paper is very-very thin. On this card there is traditional Chinese motifs - hills, trees, buildings...
And a nice New Year stamp. I really love this postcard!

Send a postcard - save a tree
Today I was looking something in the old paper box and came across a postcard that was sent to me long ago. I forgot about it and now I'm so happy that I get it back to my collection.
It's a bigger sized double card by the artist Marie Buchfink
To tell you the truth I don't quite like big-sized cards. But this is a special one for me, as I'm a big trees-lover.
Please read the text on the other side and you will understand why it is special.
And one more thing. The envelope! It's so mysterious and reminds me of the books by James Fenimore Cooper that I love when I was a child
Gavials (Bangladesh) - гавиалы (Бангладеш)
It's a good occasion to know more about these creatures.
Those are some interesting facts I could find
- * Their special features are long and very narrow noses
- * Gavials live in Hindustan
- * They are very bad at moving on the ground but they are the quickest of all the crocodiles while in the water
- * In gavials' bellies the human remains are often found. It was thought that was because they eat humans. But now the scientists explain the fact differently: gavials swallow the remains of cremated bodies that are buried according to the old traditions in the waters of the Ganges river.
- * Gavials are considered endangered species and need protection.
Сегодня сделала себе подарок - купила в местном клубе серию марок Бангладеш WWF с гавиалами
Когда-то я обожала смотреть "охотников за крокодилами" на канале Animal Planet, поэтому не могла устоять против соблазна купить марки.
Ареал обитания этих милых носатиков - север Индостана. Их исключительная особенность - очень длинные узкие морды. На конце морды у самцов вырастает такой своеобразный нарост-мешок, из-за которого собссно, этих красавцев и истребляют, потому что эти наросты считаются афродизиаками
Гавиалы плохо приспособлены к передвижению по суше, а вот по скорости передвижения в воде им почти нет равных.
В их желудках иногда находят останки людей. До недавнего времени гавиалы пользовались дурной славой людоедов, но изучив их, учёные пришли к выводу, что они просто заглатывают останки кремированых тел, которых по старинному обычаю люди в тех краях хоронят в водах Ганга.

It's interesting to note
* the Government House was built in 1929-1934
* It 's a monument to the constructivizm era
* It's still one of the biggest buildings in the country
* Nearly all the building was built by hand: the constructors did not have diggers, bulldozers, pillar cranes. The foundation pit was dug by hand too. The ground was taken away in small carts.
* In front of the building you can see the monument to Vladimir Lenin.

Isaac Ilyich Levitan
A postal emission of Russia of 2010
A postal block devoted to the great Russian artist Issak Levitan. (1860-1900)
He is thought to have become the first painter of the Russian scenery who revealed all its beauty.
There is something in his landscapes that reflects our own moods.
On the block you can see his painting "Fresh Wind. The Volga"

It is interesting to note that the master of landscape, he never introduced figures into it. Though if you look at the Autumn Day in Sokolniki — everything seems to bring out the loneliness of the figure in the centre: the trees losing their leaves, the remote, indifferent sky, the path going off into the distance. But the fact is that it was not Levitan who painted the figure. It was Checkov's brother Nicolai who did it. But all the other parts of the canvas belong to Levitan's brush.

Riga was a major centre of the Hanseatic League, deriving its prosperity in the 13th–15th centuries from the trade with central and eastern Europe. The urban fabric of its medieval centre reflects this prosperity, though most of the earliest buildings were destroyed by fire or war. Riga became an important economic centre in the 19th century, when the suburbs surrounding the medieval town were laid out, first with imposing wooden buildings in neoclassical style and then in Jugendstil. It is generally recognized that Riga has the finest collection of art nouveau buildings in Europe.

It's just a typical village in Taiwan.
I love the mood and the atmosphere of this card so I decided to post it here in my blog.

The picture on the card is Jiufen. It's located within the hills in northeast of Taiwan. There are many old buildings and houses, very narrow streets going through it. This place is next to the mountain and facing the sea.
I also like the stamp. A small bird Luscinia calliope (соловей-красношейка).
Необыкновенно красивая птицаCоловей-красношейка небольшаяптица семейства дроздовых , близкая родственница обыкновенного соловья и варакушки. На последнюю красношейка особенно похож повадками и окраской - он так же подергивает длинным хвостиком и приопускает крылья.
Однако этот соловей, в отличие от варакушки, поющей у всех на виду, держится гораздо более скрытно, мелькая среди густых ветвей кустарников.
Общий тон оперения - буроватый, брюшко светлое, бежевое. Хорошо заметны белые "брови" и "усы", а также участки чёрного цвета между ними и на горлышке.

Historic Centre of the City of Salzburg - Исторический центр Зальцбурга
A postcard of Salzburg from Julia. A city of the Baroque style, and the place where one can always hear music.

Or may be it's so only because I know the history of Salzburg a little?
and a beautiful stamp with a European wild cat. Felis silvestris It looks like a domestic cat. But it has a more massive body and a bigger head and longer hair.

Komodo National Park - Национальный парк Комодо
These volcanic islands are inhabited by a population of around 5,700 giant lizards, whose appearance and aggressive behaviour have led to them being called 'Komodo dragons'. They exist nowhere else in the world and are of great interest to scientists studying the theory of evolution.
This prehistoric creatures growing to more than 3 meters long and weighing around 70 kg. They eat everything from birds to mammals.
На земле сохранилось единственное место, где живут динозавры.
Хоть и единственный вид, но они здесь есть.
Остров Комодо в Индонезии. Сейчас это национальный парк.
Территории парка принадлежат также острова Ринка и Падар, и множество небольших островов.
Изначально парк был создан для защиты вымирающего уникального гигантского варана под названием «комодо».
Со временем целью национального парка стало сохранение дикой природы как наземной, так и морской.
На островах проживает около 5700 видов этих гигантских ящериц, чье агрессивное поведение стало причиной названия этих ящериц-варанов «драконами комодо».
Эти животные обитают только на этих островах и вызывают огромный интерес у ученых, занимающихся теорией эволюции.
Комодо является самой долгоживущей большой рептилией. На воле комодо живут более пятидесяти лет.
Средний вес взрослого комодо в дикой природе около 70 килограммов.Главное оружие охотника комодо – это умение хорошо затаиться и неожиданно напасть.Атакует комодо молниеносно, сильно сжимая несчастное животное своей мощной челюстью. Если животному удалось сбежать после укуса комодо, смерть его настигнет через несколько часов из–за заражения крови (в слюне комодо содержится очень много опасных бактерий, так как преимущественно он питается падалью). Комодо имеет два особо чувствительных органа (органы Якобсона), благодаря которым вскоре он обнаруживает гнилую тушу убитого животного на дистанции более десяти километров.
Жертвами драконов являются олени, кабаны, дикие буйволы, птицы малео, змеи, рептилии и небольшие млекопитающие. На острове Ринка в число жертв драконов также входят обезьяны и дикие лошади, а также козы, взращенные местными жителями. Зафиксированы и нападения драконов на людей. Всего было насчитано восемь случаев нападения с момента создания национального парка.

Вавель (Wawel) – архитектурный комплекс, воздвигнутый много веков назад на известняковом выступе на берегу реки Вислы в Кракове, на высоте примерно 228 метров над уровнем моря. Для польского народа это место представляет собой огромную важность; именно здесь располагается королевский замок с арсеналом и собор. В соборе похоронено немало польских королей и прочих выдающихся представителей нации; кроме того, здесь проходили коронации представителей королевской династии.
